I was going to write a super cool introduction that ties in this weekend’s readings, but I lost my creativity somewhere this week. I do have some exciting news to introduce, so let’s just jump to that. (Then, check out a promise of prayers at the end.)
As we learned with both Fathers Moss and Geiger at our Canon Law Series, “The supreme law of the Church is the salvation of souls.” I have been pondering this for some time—asking God what changes I can make to better focus on the salvation of souls. One change kept rising to the surface—a concrete step to free up some time: I am going to become a less accessible in order to become radically more available in the present moment to all of you. I am no longer going to have a public-facing email. That’s right, [email protected] is going away. It will go into effect this Monday, February 7. There will be an auto-response stating this fact as a reminder in the short term until the account is deleted. Please note, this is only impacting my email, there are no changes to the pastor’s email. Now is also a good time to debut a new email: [email protected].If you need to reach me, please send emails to this address. The difference is that our staff will monitor this email address for me. They will be the first to read these emails. If something needs my response, it will be brought to my attention so I can respond directly. Just please know that I will not be the first to read these emails.
Now is the time for a hugethank you shout out to our incredible staff for their willingness to help in this endeavor. They are awesome. It is very generous of them to take on the extra work and tackle the multitude of little tasks that were necessary to get ready for this switch. Pray for them and their awesomeness please! Thank you! To be totally honest, there are parts about taking this step that terrify me—so many what if’s and giving up a lot of control. It will probably be messy for a little while, but I’m willing to let things get messy if it means we are working towards processes that better situate us for the salvation of souls. That is exactly why I am taking this step—the salvation of souls. It frees up some time for me to be radically more available to all of you: to have coffee with you, to bless your home, to work with the servers, to chat about life, to stop in the Church for prayer, to hear confessions, and the list goes on! I am doing this for the salvation of souls. I appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through this together. This is an exciting first step of hopefully many more. Let us pray for one another, so that we may be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. On another note, the same day the email change officially takes place, I am also leaving for my yearly canonical retreat in Mexico City. I am pumped to be going down to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and be there just to pray. I will most definitely be praying for all of you and, if you have a moment, please say a prayer that I may have a fruitful retreat. Thanks!
