As we inch closer to the implementation of Beacons of Light and our new Family of Parishes, Pentecost is a providential time to surrender our fears and concerns about the future and invite the Holy Spirit into our hearts and the heart of our parishes so that we can trust that we are guided by His presence and gifts rather than trying to do everything ourselves. This weekend is obviously the last weekend before major changes to the Mass schedule, and so we commend all of this to the Spirit and ask Him to be with us as we move forward. Come Holy Ghost!
Along these same lines, we have been praying and discerning about how to start bringing together the staff from the WWPR and Our Lady of the Valley so that we can move towards being a cohesive team that covers as much ground as possible and is dynamic in bringing souls to Christ. With that in mind, I would like to introduce Jose Martinez, our new Director of Family evangelization, who will be starting in our region this week. He will be working with the rest of the staff on formation and evangelization opportunities to better equip families to live their Faith and pass it on to their children. In time, we will see a distribution of responsibilities spread out among the staff of all our parishes, and that might mean that things change. I never seek to change things lightly, but in my deep desire to do everything possible to form saints and equip them to go out into the world and evangelize, I am willing to try new things, even when there might be some concern at the outset.
In the footsteps of the Apostles, we stand at the precipice of a task that seems overwhelming. They were to be sent out into a world that often either feared or hated them and asked to be salt and light. We are in much the same spot, and it is natural to feel some trepidation. But we and the Apostles both go out into the world fortified by the Spirit and equipped with everything we need to carry out our mission. Open your heart to the Spirit, allow your heart to be formed to be like Our Lord’s, and trust in His will for your life. It makes all the difference.
