Because of the numerous times I have mentioned the FOCUS Mission (www.focus.org) going down to Mexico City that I was blessed to serve as chaplain on, I figured I’d be kind and share some pictures and give some more context. With a gaggle of university students and three FOCUS missionaries, we all flew down to Mexico City and met Craig, the founder of Hope of the Poor (www.hopeofthepoor.org). I still message him often to check in, and we can give thanks that he was able to return to the poor in in September.
We served the street kids and other homeless of Mexico City. We went to the women’s shelter for the elderly and those with disabilities under the care of the state (Government policy prohibited photos). Found Christ with those who live and work in the trash dump outside of town. Everything that we did was to first encounter Christ in the poor and then to embrace Christ in the poor. In Matthew 25, Christ tells us that we need to see Him, know Him, and love Him in the poor—whether physical or spiritual. On top of all of these incredible moments, we were blessed to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe almost every day—spending time with her miraculous tilma. Enough of my writing, here are some pictures! Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! God Bless, Fr. Jeff
“Listen, put it into your heart, my youngest son, that what frightened you, what afflicted you is nothing; do not let it disturb your face, your heart; do not fear this sickness or any other sickness, nor any sharp or hurtful thing. Am I not here, I who have the honor to be your mother? Are you not in my shadow and under my protection? Am I not the source of your joy? Are you not in the hollow of my mantle, in the crossing of my arms? Do you need anything more? “ –Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego
