Is there a requirement to go to Mass?
The Sunday obligation has been dispensed. The Faithful in Ohio are under no obligation whatsoever to attend Mass, and we ask that you please, please try to attend a weekday Mass instead of on Sunday, if possible. There are some people in the region who are healthcare workers or essential workers that can only go on weekends, and we ask that you do what you can to accommodate them.
Do I have to wear a mask?
Masks are strongly advised, but not required. If you do not have one and you would like one, please reach out to us and we will put you in touch with folks in the region who are generously making them.
Can I receive Communion?
Yes, communion will be available under one species, and each section will process up in an orderly fashion to prevent two-way traffic and people breaking social distance norms.
Will the Church be open for private prayer?
The regional office at Our Lady of the Rosary will be resuming normal hours, and we will have the Church open for private, socially distanced prayer from
9:00 am -3:00 pm on Monday to Friday.
How can I help?
We need people to help sanitize the Church after weekend Masses, and people to help usher and organize the Masses we will be having. Those responsibilities are listed on the Signup Genius pages for the Masses.
Will the Mass still be livestreamed?
Yes, we will still be livestreaming at least one Mass a day from the region so that people who are not able to join us can still participate.
Will there be music?
Given the fact that prolonged indoor exposure,
groups standing in close proximity, and projected singing and speaking are all higher risk factors for transmitting the virus, there will be no music for at least the next few weeks.
Can we socialize before and after Mass?
The Archdiocese has asked that we do what we can
to abbreviate the time that people are indoors in
larger groups, and so we ask that you please enter
the Church in an orderly fashion and leave promptly afterwards. People are welcome to pray for a
moment and then exit in an orderly fashion and
avoid socialization.
I am having problems signing up/do not know where to sign up. What should I do?
If you are having any issues with signing up, please call the office and we will either sign up for you or walk you through the process.
If only a few people sign up, will Mass still be held?
For the time being, yes. Wherever two or three are gathered in my name... Our hope is that people will start to more evenly spread out over the available Masses as we adjust to the new schedule.
Can I go to more than one Mass per week?
At the outset, we ask that you limit your family to
one Mass per week. If all goes well, we will probably institute a policy where any open slots are eligible to be filled by anyone who wants to sign up when we get inside of 48 hours of the scheduled Mass. That way we will give everyone the chance to go to Mass once a week, but those who have the time will be able to attend extra Masses. For the time being, please register for only one Mass a week.
Will there be adoration?
Liturgical norms state that at least two adorers should be present whenever the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, and we don’t want to create a sense of obligation for people to show up for their scheduled hour of adoration if they are feeling unwell or might be susceptible to spreading the virus. With that in mind, people are welcome to pray before the tabernacle at OLR during business hours, but we
will not be having the regularly scheduled adoration times in the region.
Will confession be available before Masses as before?
We will be maintaining the quarantine schedule of confessions: 4-6pm in the parking lot of St. James
and 5-7pm in the parking lot of St. Matthias, as well as by appointment, for the foreseeable future. As things progress, we will reevaluate the ability to have confessions indoors
and at the regular times, but for now we are still using
the alternatives.
