In this weekend’s Gospel we hear the compelling and heartrending story of the synagogue official and his sick daughter. This man is so desperate to do what is necessary to take care of his child that he is willing to fight through the crowd and take a huge risk by meeting this man, Jesus, about whom people are saying many strange things. Since he is a high-ranking synagogue official, he is putting his career in jeopardy by associating with a man that many people think is crazy, a rabble rouser, or possibly a dangerous revolutionary. But all of that means absolutely nothing to him because the safety and well-being of his daughter is all that matters. Please click title to read more.

There are relatively few liturgical celebrations that trump Sunday Mass. Every Sunday, even during Ordinary time and the penitential seasons, is treated as a “mini Easter” of sorts, and so even some major feast days don’t take precedence over the day of the Lord’s Resurrection. Today, however, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist instead of the 12th Sunday in Ordinary time, and this might strike us as odd. For most saints, the day of their death is considered their principal feast, as it is the date when they enter into Eternal Splendor with God. Only the Nativities of Our Lord, Our Lady, and St. John the Baptist take such precedence. Please click title to read more.
Young people from our region will once again gather this summer to serve and pray together. The “Days of Service, Nights of Prayer” retreat will begin Thursday, June 28 and continue through Saturday, June 30. We will spend our time during the day serving in ministries in the Cincinnati area and gather for prayer experiences in the evenings. It was at this event that we encountered the Sisters from the Rose garden Mission who had such a positive influence on the young people who attended. If you want to help or want more information about our plan for 2018 please contact Dave Nissen. You can register at: https://wintonwyomingpr.org/days-of-service-nights-of-prayer-registration.
We’re taught that we have to go out and seize the day and do everything ourselves. None of this is necessarily bad in itself, but we have to be prepared to do our best work, and then leave it in God’s hands and trust that He will do what is necessary for our true happiness and salvation. When Pope St. John XXIII would turn in for the night, the last prayer he would say before going to sleep was “I’ve done my best I could in your service this day, Oh Lord. I’m going to bed. It’s your church. Take care of it!” If the Pope can learn to entrust his cares and worries to the Lord, then the rest of our problems can probably wait as well. PLEASE CLICK TITLE TO READ MORE

This year marks my 15th ordination anniversary to the priesthood. I thank God that I was able to fulfill one of my wishes by making a pilgrimage to Kibeho in Rwanda before my July 12 anniversary. Kibeho means a lot in my vocation life and my daily life as a priest. I have no doubt that my devotion to Our Lady of Kibeho was at the source of my vocation. I thank Mother Mary who still strengthens and supports me in my spiritual journey. PLEASE CLICK TITLE TO READ MORE

When we participate in Eucharistic processions we literally carry Jesus with us out into the world, and without shame or embarrassment we worship Him in public and invite the world to do the same. There are places in the world where Corpus Christi processions head from the Church to the center of the city, and then all those assembled pray that from there, from the very heart of their city, Jesus may go out to the world and transform the lives of His people.
